I think I have it all figured out
Its very easy, especially in this very social media focused world, to get lost in all the noise
More money
More things
More stuff
All great great goals to strive for and I wholehearted hope you achieve all the things you want to see how you feel when you get them
– but reality is often different from what we think we want –
Deep down most of us have found our happiest and most content when we have a mix of (truly) valuable work that gives our life purpose…
Spending time with those that we love and care for…
And enjoying relatively simple things day to day…
I often think about who I am, what I’m doing, where I’m going and how much can I make a difference to people as I get there
To – and the end of my days whenever that may be – to look back and not necessarily think did I have the ‘best’ life…
…but did I live a fulfilled life
Trying to get the tone right for this post has been challenging; to speak of your own mortality – for some as it once for me – is terrifying
Now?
The fact that one day simply I wont be here is liberating
This is my time
This is my one shot
This
Is
It
Doesn’t matter what I do or how much anyone earns, one day my time – as will yours – run out
For me is a stark and clear reminder to live my life to the best of my abilities
And what I truly want?
I’ve come to realise is two-fold
I want to make people happy
I want to create
That’s it
If I can make people happy by helping them get more money, more time, more freedom
That’s awesome
If what I create makes people think, smile, change their life or simply appreciate
That’s awesome too
I am but one human being who on, a cosmic scale, my time on this amazing planet is comically brief
Yes there are problems in this world
Yes there are bad people
Yes there is darkness and hate and fear
I cannot fix that
But what I can do, is create the things that make me happy
And do the things that make other people happy
Whether its a tens, hundreds, thousands or millions; I believe we should all strive – however we decide to do it – to make the world a better place, one person at a time…
…but without, as I did, forget to do that for myself as well
Yes its incredibly hard especially when life has dealt you a shocking hand – but if you are reading this you are still living and breathing and as painful or uncomfortable as it may be you can change and you can make your life better
Ultimately the sun will rise and the sun will set; this has been going on for millions of years and will continue to go on for millions of years more
In a hundred of so years nothings really going to matter, what matters is what you do NOW
Life is for living, live it
And as cheesy as this sounds its a quote that has brought me a lot of solace of the years
“Everything will be alright in the end, and if it isn’t? Then it’s not the end”
Keep going
Dan
